At Carus, safety and sustainability have always been at the core of our values, and our recently completed Rebuild Project, impacting our potassium permanganate production, is the latest demonstration of these commitments.
Following the fire that occurred on January 11, 2023, which impacted our community, neighbors, warehouse and packaging facilities, we took the opportunity to improve our operations in many ways. With a focus on creating a safer, greener future, we’ve implemented key environmental, health, and safety improvements that will benefit both our team and the community in which we operate.
Key Improvements for a Safer Future
We are committed to further minimizing environmental impact and safeguarding the well-being of our employees and neighbors. A state-of-the-art fire sprinkler system and fire detection and alarm systems have been installed, designed to provide fast, reliable response in the event of an emergency.
Furthermore, the internal, concrete walls of the rebuild are 3-hour fire-rated, meaning they are designed to withstand exposure to fire for up to three hours before compromising structural integrity. This added protection helps contain any fire and provides valuable time for evacuation and emergency response efforts. These walls are a critical safety feature, further enhancing the overall security of our new space.
Alongside the safety upgrades to our facilities, we’re proud to introduce significant improvements to our packaging and pallet system, designed to enhance handling safety and efficiency for our employees. These upgrades not only boost productivity but also foster a better working environment by incorporating ergonomic features that prioritize employee comfort and safety.
Our commitment to environmental responsibility has always been a priority. While Carus has always fully complied with environmental regulations, the rebuild allowed the company to go beyond these requirements. A new advanced containment system was implemented to safely manage and recycle water on-site, further reducing environmental footprint and reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainability.
