2022 Summer Science Camp

Summer Science Camp 2022 Registration & T-Shirt Design Contest

PERU, IL – Many parents are choosing science camps to keep their kids engaged during the summer break and to give them a head start with in-demand STEM skills. Starting May 23, Illinois Valley parents will have a chance to enroll their kids in the free and popular Summer Science Camp which is sponsored by Carus LLC and Saint Bede Academy. Parents can register online and camp slots will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Kids from area schools entering the sixth-grade next fall are eligible to attend. The 2022 camp will be held July 18 – 22 at Saint Bede Academy from 9 am to noon each day.

Several new things are planned this year to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Carus Summer Science Camp. The new lineup includes a commemorative t-shirt design contest, additional camp slots, and a huge camp graduation party with five special guests to be announced next month. “Millions of kids are headed to summer camps,” said Carus LLC CEO Andy Johnston. “Not only is this one free, but it equips local students with valued STEM skills like communication, problem solving and critical thinking. The kids get to participate in super fun hands-on experiments. They make rockets, identify chemicals by flame color, take field trips to see how science impacts our community and lots of other exciting things,” Johnston said. Carus LLC is the Camp’s sponsor and a passionate supporter of STEM education.

To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the camp, Carus is sponsoring a Summer Science Camp t-shirt design contest. “The winner gets a pizza party for their entire school class and receives early bird registration for the Camp,” said Carus Communications Manager, JoLynn Anzelc. “Carus employees are excited to choose the winning design and are looking forward to seeing what the kids create,” she added. Anzelc said designs should be submitted by Friday, May 13 and the winner will be announced the following week. Designs may be submitted via email at sciencecamp@carusllc.com or mailed to Carus LLC, 315 5th Street in Peru, Illinois. The design contest is open to area kids entering the sixth-grade next fall.

The Carus Summer Science Camp is a popular destination for students in LaSalle, Bureau and Putnam counties. The Camp is led by a team of local teachers and Carus employee volunteers; all have a passion for science and STEM skills. STEM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering and math. According to The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, demand for STEM occupations will continue growing with much more lucrative salaries than other fields.
